Damariscotta 2/6

A small fleet assembled at Lake Farm for what appeared to be the last hurrah before a windless warming trend. Noah must have made the guest list: Two Lockleys, two mini Skeeters, two DN’s, two C Skeeters and a couple of oddballs.

The ice has improved a bit in the past two days, but the plate is working in these warm afternoons. It feels like March; a bit concerning. The Wavus pressure ridge was marked and crossed, but by the time the touring fleet returned it had worked up into a little pile.

The other big shock was the entrance to the River. Tight as a drum on Sunday, and today this:

If you can look at this on the big screen and squint you’ll see all kinds of realities.

But they made it down to Vannah Rd, which is in great shape, but deserted.

My little boat thought it queer,
to see not a car, or trailer near.

So he turned his bow to face the wind,
And compelled his captain to haul it in.

Two boats are on the ice for tomorrow. After that it looks bleak, especially for the weekend with temps in the high forties. Time to lick wounds and sharpen runners.

An excellent parody of Frost’s “Stopping by Woods.”
