A few days ago at five AM Eastern DNer’s Roseberry and Chamberland rolled into Starbuck, MN. and found the ice of Lake Minnewaska, proposed site of the Great Western Challenge this weekend.
Their eyes were blurry, above, but the ice looked pretty good.
But before they had a chance to catch their breath and set up, the call came that the venue had changed. Two hours back in the direction they had just come to Pelican Lake in Albertville. Now if that’s not iceboating, what is?
And to add insult to exhaustion Pelican Lake had snow on it.
But being good sports they met a few other sailors, set up and had some fine sailing until another call came directing them to return to Minniwaska after all. Iceboating at it’s best!
Now for the past two days seven DN’s have been scratch racing, tuning, comparing notes and helping each other to go faster. These are guys who will be competing against each other this coming weekend at the Western Challenge, but more importantly, competing at the highest levels at the Worlds later this season. Great sportsmanship, and iceboating at it’s real best.
