Not quite Champagne ice today on Dammy, but it was good enough for us. Some bumps, a few tight cracks and one slush pit far down in Great Bay. The narrows were ok; the north end was very rough from vehicle traffic in the snow but then it was a smooth glide through on the sweet SW’er. The bays just to the south of the narrows are the best on the lake but it gets rough and ends at a nasty crack in the same spot we found it two weeks ago. The ice beyond that was, naturally, sublime, but we could not cross.
All the way back to the north end for lunch at the Jefferson Cafe. How nice to get out of the wind in a sunny window enjoying a hot lunch. We are very fortunate to have this place. Please patronize it!
Bravo to all those who grabbed this glorious day, and to Denis for making the day trip from Quebec. That’s dedication to the sport.
Looks like we’ll be shoveling snow with a hangover tomorrow morning. No recovery in sight (from the snow…), unless the snow blows clear, which has been known to happen. The hangover will blow clear. It always does. Rest assured that at least we know what kind of ice there is under the snow.
Meanwhile, down in Massachusetts at Quabog Pond there were eleven boats today. The ice looked a bit better than what we have. Thanks to Bob Strzelewicz for keeping such a good eye on this old favorite.
Looks like Brian Langley, Cody Sisson and Billy Bluefeather in the foreground.
