2025-26 Iceboat Season has Begun

Good Morning,
A very pleasant weekend of driving, bargain hunting, and talking of iceboating was had by all. There were many bargains at the speedway swap meet, and many were swapped. Unfortunately the state of the art DN fuselage and plank combo that I had on display, car topped back to Maine with me, despite the 25% discount I had offered.
I must thank all who attended our CIBC Fall meeting on Sunday and contributed the fine eats. The Borscht that Courtney made fresh the day of meeting with most of the ingredients grown by her, was incredible. Organic breads cheeses and more really amazed me. As I was cleaning up post party I also discovered a bouquet of zinnia that I suspect was her delivery. As everyone hit the road at about 1500, it came to mind again just how much iceboating is a driving sport. I believe Paul had the longest drive of more that 5hr. Iceboating does require a substantial number of road miles per ice mile.
The third reason for this post, when I was cleaning up after you all departed there were a couple of of items left behind. A filet knife, plate, and a jacket. Please let me know to who these belong. I hope you all travelled safely, and are Thinking Ice, I am.

CIBC Meeting

Thanks to everyone who showed up for the fall meeting yesterday. Discussion was lively and informative between old salts and new saiiors. The food was excellent, especially Courtney’s Borscht. Dave was the perfect host, offering runner building tips and surrounding us with iceboating memorabilia. On the big screen he showed Dan Stillman’s latest video from Loring:

Loring Landsailing and Fall Meeting

The Eastern Landsailing Champs concluded today, a frosty morning with not a lick of wind. The usual Sunday vibe prevailed with sitting in the morning sun, slowly packing boats and dragging out long goodbyes with high hopes for the next regatta, May 2026.The wind blew great for three days straight, giving the fleet nineteen races in all. Results below:

As most have you have heard, there is new activity on the base. The Arch Hangar has been repaired, painted and prepped to receive planes for maintenance and repairs. As a result, the big runway if off limits for the foreseeable future. Same with the Backroads. That said, there is still acres of sailable asphalt and the show will go on. The Big Blokart regatta is ON for October 8-12.

Hard at work in the plane shop on Saturday night.

This morning’s frost got us thinking ice, and with that in mind the CIBC Fall Meeting is scheduled for Sunday, October 26 at the house and shop of Dave Fortier in Biddeford, ME. In keeping with our New England iceboating tradition it is the Sunday after the NEIYA meting and Swap Meet on that Saturday at Thompson Motor Speedway in Thompson, CT.

The CIBC meeting will start at 11:00, to be followed by a POT LUCK lunch. Odds and ends from the swap meet will be on sale; bring your own stuff to swap and sell as well. Last season in Maine wasn’t all that great with most of our ice covered in lovely snow, so this season is bound to be better. Be ready!

We will try to get ouit a vestigial newsletter along with the roster soon.
