FLASH!

So we have a pretty nice plate of ice there on the south end of Damariscotta. There are islands, rivers and bays oh my, but in a SW wind, forecast for Wednesday, it’s not so great. What we need is a wide open plate with good access to that wind. And as if the ice gods haven’t been treating us well enough this season, along comes this:

Lee Spiller was just in the neighborhood and thought he should check it out. Way to go Lee! It’s Jordan Bay on Lake Sebago. There was 2.5″ yesterday and deep icemaking temps for the next few days. The SW will be humming right up the middle of this plate and out of respect for the ice god’s generosity we need to be there. Pat Keely reports that it extends nearly to Frye Island.

Launch from the public boat ramp at Raymond Beach Wednesday morning. The ice will NOT have been scouted at that time.

I intend to pay homage to the SW windgods . The red rogue renegade seeks ice!

Are you perchance bringing those triangles?

Have fun on Jordon Bay on Wednesday. I have been directly out on skates about 1.5 miles to the crack between the smaller cove and the bigger body. It all appeared sound out to there (3 (?) inches very smooth!), but, beyond, it seemed too thin (5pm,Jan 14) to skate on. I am also hoping it will be quite solid by Wednesday.
