Loring Landsailing 2020 ON

First race Friday at 9:30. PRO Karen Binder will keep us on our toes from then on out, getting in as many races as conditions allow. We will finish the regatta when 1) there is no more wind: 2) our lease agreement expires; 3) we expire.

We’re not too fussy regarding class assignments, but this guy will demand some head scratching from the race committee.

One of the great things about the energy surrounding this regatta is that nearly all the participants have built their own land yachts. Maybe “built” is a stretch, but nearly all are modified iceboats. Either way, it demands creative thought and time in the workshop. The very essence of iceboating and land yachting. Tom Nichols once observed that people who built their own boats were, in the long run, far more committed sailors than those who buy their boats. Not that there’s anything wrong with buying a boat, after all I make my living building boats, (there will be a few for sale at Loring!) but our sport needs to nurture the skills needed to build and repair.

See you on the asphalt!
